5th KYIV SECURITY FORUM “MODERN GLOBAL SECURITY TENDENCIES: DOES DEMOCRACY MATTER?” (April, 19-20, 2012)

On April, 19-20, 2012 will take place the 5th Kyiv Security Forum “Modern Global Security Tendencies: Does Democracy Matter?” within the framework of International Dialogue Program of the Arseniy Yatseniuk Foundation Open Ukraine.

Annual international event “Kyiv Security Forum” (KSF) was initiated by the Arseniy Yatseniuk Foundation Open Ukraine in 2007. It is the region’s foremost platform for high level discussions on the most pressing security issues in the Black Sea region and wider Europe.

The main goal of KSF is to promote and to strengthen defense and security cooperation between European and Black Sea region, to inform the main actors on key developments in the area of security, to enhance the strengthening of the independent and non-governmental actors’ role in the resolving of European security problems.

Next year the Forum will focus on the role of democracy in modern global and regional security processes and on the issues of interrelations between the processes of democratization and international security. Participants will discuss global security tendencies, prosperity and democracy issues. Representatives from European and Black Sea regional states will determine the role of the European Union in regional development and analyse the EU’s future as the key factor for regional stability. The role of Ukraine in global and regional security processes will also become a topic for discussion.

What does democracy mean? Is it possible to draw a parallel between democratic processes in different regions of the world? What are possible new development scenarios? What is the role of democracy in the development of global and regional security system?

Well-known politicians and representatives from the main European, American, Russian and Black Sea regional think tanks will answer those and other questions during the four coherent panels of the event.

Participants of KSF: over 400 representatives from more than 20 countries, high-level top governmental officials and policy leaders, well-known politicians, research associates and academics, experts, businessmen, representatives of civil society and mass media from Ukraine and other states of the Black Sea region, from the USA, respective international and regional organizations.

As a result of KSF the digest with recommendations will be prepared and forwarded to the governmental and political leaders of the European and Black Sea regional states, representatives of international organizations, think tanks and civil society from regional states and Ukraine.
